Albania has long since been without an ambassador to the United States and will likely remain for some time, after the American Congress has returned Ambassador Catherine Ann Cavalec's candidacy for the position of US ambassador to Albania.
The nomination has been returned to President Trump's office again, which at the end of last year has had some replicas with the leader of democratic senators Chuck Schumer. According to Trump the Democrats in the Senate have returned dozens of nominations of ambassadors for still unclear reasons, what has brought about and a series of reactions from countries where there are no US ambassadors already.
It is now up to the president of the United States to decide whether to reconfirm the name of Kathleen Ann Cavalec to come to Albania or running will change.
The nomination of Cavalec to become US ambassador to Tirana has gone to the American Senate since July 2018, but since then it has been suspended, leaving our country without a powerful US representative in Albania.
Its candidacy remained under consideration by the Foreign Relations Commission and did not go to the polls.
Kathleen Ann Cavalec has a 30-year career in diplomacy and currently serves as Assistant Secretary at the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs at the American State Department.
