The increase in price by 30 percent, bakers reason with the price of flour. While Muhamet Farizi, executive director of the Kosovo Mills Association, told public television that raising the price of bread in our country has occurred even when there are large reserves of wheat. According to him, price hikes are making bakers for their own benefits.
Muhamet Fariz, executive director of the Association of Mollies of Kosovo, told Radio Kosovo that raising the price of bread in Kosovo has started even earlier and that there has been growth even at the time when there were large reserves of wheat in the market. According to him, price hikes are making bakers for personal gain.
The price of bread in Kosovo, in general, has had moves even earlier, namely price hikes, at the time when there was insufficient supply, but even when there was excessive supply. There have been times when the price of flour was extremely low but the price of bread the bakers didn't cut it down, exploited it for their own benefit.
Some of the bakers interviewed by public television said the decision to raise the price of bread was made after the price of flour was raised on the local market.
The price of bread on us is 40 cents, from the moment the flour is lifted. We made the decision to raise the price along with several other bakers. I am very sorry for this rise, because we all know living conditions in Kosovo”, a baker has said.
While Elhami Ismajli, spokesman at the Ministry of Trade and Industry, said over the phone that bakers could raise the price of bread and that it is their issue.
According to data from the Kosovo Statistics Agency, mostly our country imports from Serbia. During 2018 Kosovo has imported over 100,000 tons of wheat, with over 90 percent of that amount imported from Serbia.
