To remember this day, several activities will be organised in Pristina today, with which one year of activities that are organised under the organisation of the Skenderbe Year.

Gjergj Kastriot, Albania's national hero, was born in 1403. It belonged to the Kastriot royal family. His father was John Kastriot, the leader of the larger cities of the day, Kruja and Mirday, and his mother was Vojsawa.

When George was born, his father, John Kastriot, was ruler of an important state, which stretched at least from the outskirts of Prizren and Tetovo in the east to the Adriatic Sea in the west.

Gjergj Kastriot Skenderbeu died at 63. It is viewed by many Western European countries as the hero who prevented the Ottoman Empire from conquering the West of Europe. Gjergj Kastriot Skenderbej remains the legendary figure of the Albanian nation in centuries.

Skenderbeu's death meant the end of Albania's independence, which only caused it to appear as a united and independent state. Crewe, who for many years came to be called the Acropolis of Christianity, resisted just another siege without its leadership.

Gjergj Kastriot '% Skenderbeu, Albania's national hero sealed the resistance against conquering Turks in the 15th century, and was an example for all later heroes.

It remained in history as a warrior, as a general of principle and ideal. Gjergj Kastriot was the greatest political and military personality of his day. He was known as commander of all Albanian tribes and defender of Christianity. He managed to stop the spread of Turkish hordes in the Balkans for 25 years without losing even one battle. With his heroic war, he won the admiration of all of Christian Europe.

In Albania, Skenderbeu is a legend, the true image of a hero, a demigod who was always on the front line of the war, who never hesitated to sacrifice his life for his ideals, for what he believed, for his homeland and his fellow fighters.

Today in Albania his memory is quite vivid, and so in his honor, since the day he died, his last name became an honor name for the boys. And so people name their children, so these kids look like this hero. In Albania, it is an honor to be called someone Kastriot, but also a great responsibility for someone to honor that name at any moment.
