Nearly 200m euros is the estimated value as debts that Kosovo municipalities have not repaid during the past year to economic operators, with whom they have entered contracting relations for various projects, writes today “Koha Ditore”.
This figure is confirmed by official data from the Ministry of Finance. But these debts will be much larger in the coming year. That's because municipalities have gone into debt to the throat in order to realise as many projects as possible that would bring them more votes, since last year was an election year.
Directors of several major Kosovo municipalities have claimed to have inherited indebted institutions. Meanwhile, finance ministry officials hold municipalities accountable for disrespecting the law. They even refer to it as a serious legal violation, entry into commitment to projects, without pledging budgetary means for them.
