European Parliament MP Lucas Mandel said that after visa liberalisation, Kosovo citizens have no chance of asylum.
Mandel made these statements at the fifth meeting of the EU-Kosovo Parliamentary Commission for Stabilisation and Association, which is continuing to be held in the Kosovo Assembly.
Mandel also said that they are eagerly awaiting the European Union member states vote, saying the commissioner responsible for relations is committed to convincing member states to vote for visa liberalisation for Kosovo.
“Even though it is said there may be asylum seekers after visa liberalisation, but in fact this is a thing that only exists in the minds of people. So I think we all agree in Parliament on visa liberalisation, and the European Parliament has voted in this direction, but we need to follow the information, arguments the true solution of Kosovo, of course we have to explain to Kosovars that there is no kind of chance for asylum if Kosovo is a stable country and that is so the economy as we all know it, and that is infected by visa liberalisation<1>, Mandel said.
Democratic Party of Kosovo MP Blerta Deliu-Codra, greatly praising the pro-visa liberalisation vote in the European Parliament, indicated that the way to meeting the criteria for visa liberalisation has been quite challenging.
It has called for MPs' support so that Kosovo citizens will move freely into the Schengen area.
“We hope that the adoption of the visa liberalisation document in the Council of the European Union will be completed as soon as possible this year, while we also expect your support in the lobeation for this process to receive a positive epilogue for the movement of Kosovo citizens. As Kosovo Parliament deputy we will continue lobbieing with member states to introduce Kosovo's achievements in meeting the leadership criteria for liberalisation”, Deliu-Kodra said.
Democratic League of Kosovo MP Arben Gashi said it is very important that the justice system focus also on civil justice because it directly affects citizens.
He has raised as a concern the failure of the Special Court, where politics in his opinion cannot provide answers to these issues.
“A problem has been created and should be the institutions of justice for alleged crimes to issue the verdict whether he is guilty or innocent. It is no longer the policy that can address these issues, so we support that as soon as these specialised rooms start functioning and address these issues and give the right answers, and I have remarks also from international partners that now how many years have become and there is nothing concrete, legal infrastructure is“, Gashi said.
