Researchers rightly point out that excessive sugar consumption can lead to overweight and therefore increase the risk of diabetes, heart disease, and certain types of cancer.
But studies say that you don't need to let go of sugar to have a healthy meal. The sugar ban is unlikely to improve your health more than to reduce processed foods, consume more vegetables, and limit how much extra sugar you consume.
At best, sugarless diet is confusing and imposes added attention to rules that are not based on scientific evidence. In the worst case, such a restrictive diet can create fear of food or a unwholesome relationship with food.
