On Democracy Day, Wessel called for unity of the political scene

Kosovo Parliament Speaker Kadri Wessel, on the occasion of celebrating Democracy Day, has said democracy constitutes the best model of governance in human political history, because it manages to ensure a government that does not violate the highest value of individual and society freedom. “We believe [...]
“We believe in this idea, so we have chosen to be part of the democratic world, synonymous with which are the United States of America, the North Atlantic Alliance and the European Union“, Veselin stressed. He added that democracy before it is an idea, is real practice, is a specific way of governing and living in freedom.
It's this one dimension that sometimes seems to be forgetting. Our mouth is full of democracy, and on the other hand, we do things that no longer correspond to the practical spirit of democracy. As I say that, I mean right at our political scene, which is now in a long time having serious difficulties overcoming harmful party polarisation“, Veselin said.
The head of the Parliament said political differences are legitimate in democracy, but when they do not conclude by consensus, they turn into a danger to democratic order.
“mentioned these principles, to come up with the current question of dialogue with Serbia. We need to sit down and find common language in dealing with the challenges of this “dialogue, Wessel stressed, while adding that the spirit of mutual exclusion is a dead end.
The “dilemmas raised on the risk of partitioning Kosovo are not sustainable. It's not our dilemma, really. They are snares of opponents of our freedom and independence. Kosovo is an independent and sovereign state. The February 17th Declaration of Independence is a sacred declaration to our people. Therefore, as such, it is invulnerable. Kosovo has its territorial integrity, internationally recognised. It has its own constitution and no one has a mandate to make decisions that are contrary to its basic principles“, Veselin said.
At the celebration of the day of democracy, Wessel has met students of various Kosovo schools who visited the Kosovo Assembly.
