Kosovo President Hashim Thaci is continuing not to back off from the initially launched initiative to correct borders with Serbia. The fact that it is being sharply criticised by the position, opposition, international diplomats and connoisseurs of Balkan issues is not preventing Thaci from entering the process alone. Ramush Haradinaj, Kadri Veselini, Isa Mustafa, Fatmir Limaj, Albin Kurti, Bujar Nishani, Sali Berisha, etc, are some of the Albanian leaders who have rejected his idea. Edi Rama remains silent.
Balkan Affairs Agreements Daniel Serwer and Carl Bildt have warned against the idea of exchanging territories.
Over the past few days Hashim Thaci has held successive conferences for exchange of territories with Serbia, but the term “x1> has softened, calling it “border correction”. His initiative is being described as dangerous, which can lead to new wars and conflicts.
To meet his goal, Thaci has also warned the referendum. Adding that on this subject, citizens must be left to decide for themselves.
Hashim Thaci opposes his idea is returning it with the same currency. Of the open debates just about the exchange of territories, Thaci did not hesitate to reveal old stories of his former Albanian counterpart, Sali Berisha.
That, as Albania's former Prime Minister, Sali Berisha, went against the idea of changing borders and exchanging territories between Kosovo and Serbia. He said it should not be used for trade between the two states, and much less affect Kosovo's borders, which are internationally recognised by 115 states.
Albania's former president, Bujar Nishani, has come up against Thaci's idea has even criticised Edi Rama's silence in exchanging territories.
DP MP Tritan Shehu versus the idea. Petrit Vasili opposes as well.
Kosovo Government chief Ramush Haradinaj, clarifying that he is not part of any agreement on partitioning Kosovo.
Chief Parliamentary Kadri Veselini said there will be no partition of Kosovo, and that such an idea is Berodard's.
Even LDK leader Isa Mustafa told no territorial exchange with Serbia. Civil society and analysts see the idea in question as dangerous for Kosovo.
Former American diplomat and Balkan Affairs connoisseur Daniel Cerwer is positioned against President Hashim Thaci's statement in exchange for territories with Serbia. Serer a Kosovo supporter has counted a series of reasons that the exchange of territories with Serbia is dangerous and leads to the end of the state of Kosovo, wishing that this would never happen.
Carl Bildt, the Swedish diplomat who knows the Balkan region well, has warned against exchanging territories between Kosovo and Serbia. The former European emissary for the former Yugoslavia says such an idea is very dangerous, as it says, and would encourage population movements.
The EU has not changed policies supporting Kosovo's territorial integrity, says Michael Leigh, expert on European policies. It is impossible for the EU to be provising changes to territorial status quo.
However, the idea of exchange of territories is being supported by the Movement for the Union.
The idea for changing borders and correction has been launched by President Thaci shortly after failing to abolish the Special Court. In January of this year, Thaci's office had left open the idea of talks with Serbia, including the topic of borders.
So far only Germany and Britain have turned themselves against, while other countries have left open the possibility of any agreement the parties might agree with.
In Kosovo, Thaci's idea has been rejected by political parties.
