Serbian General: Army, Belgrade's only possible response to Pristina

Prevention of combat readiness throughout Serbia's territory due to tensions in Kosovo is a logical move, said Mitar Kovac, retired Serbian General, who is also chairman of the Eurasian Security Forum.

Given all that is happening in Kosovo, according to him, it is completely expected that the Serbian Army and the “other security systems”, such as police and BIA, will increase the level of engagement and operational skills to a higher level.

It is legal that Serbia actively defends its interests in Kosovo, except for politics and security, in the coming period and not allow violence to be decided in advance with a solution and that the so-called “strategy of action carried out is occupied by the resources and area of the Republic of Serbia”, Kovac told Serbian media.

I think Serbia's legitimate right is to protect its national interests if it's threatened by vital national interests, and above all those energy and economic objects. In the event of violence, it is quite logical to take adequate measures and protect interests in northern Kosovo,” he adds.

According to him, there are true indications that Pristina will not allow the founding of Serb municipalities unilaterally and take expectations measures under the protection of legitimacy.

“Authorities in Pristina are real threats, Kovac said, adding that in the coming period the negotiation process will be under pressure from Kosovo authorities and foreign intelligence services, which will try “to collect information and manage specific events in the function of destabilising the Serbian people in Kosovo”.
