From this legal change, according to MPB data, the right to early retirement will be granted over 1,200 Kosovo Police employees, who are over this age.
This accounts for 13 percent of all police staff, numbering some 9 thousand employees, writes Koha Ditore today. And the amount of pension guaranteed to them is 60 percent of their gross salary.
The initiative for the Law on Pensions of Police Officials had begun since 2015. At that time, however, the International Monetary Fund has raised concerns about the budgetary implications this law may have.
The bill has been envisioned to proceed to the Assembly since last year, but has been postponed so far due to the budgetary impact assessment made by the Ministry of Finance.
Compared to regular retirement, the bill now in the public consultation phase envisions voluntary retirement.
