Merkel and Putin meet today

Russian President Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Angela Merkel will meet today in connection with conflict talks in Ukraine and Syria.

Merkel has warned on August 17th not to have high expectations of her discussions with Putin.

“We want good reports with Russia”, Merkel told reporters.

There's a working meeting from which no results are expected, but the number of common problems that concern us, such as Syria and Ukraine, as well as economic co-operation, are so big that it forces us to be in permanent dialogue”.

“Russia has great influence on these issues and we just want peaceful solutions, we'll try to achieve them only with discussions”, Merkel said.

Both leaders had last met in Soci in May.
