Harsh Measures Against Missing Doctors

Patient polls for job shortages are not rare. Of the 500 instalments addressed at the Association for Patients' Rights in Kosovo, 38 percent have been precisely for lack of doctors. So said Besim Kodra, chairman of this society. “The responsibility and accountability of the medical staff [...]
The responsibility and accountability of the medical staff is key to regulating the health system. There have been complaints, for example, at the Gynecological Clinic, where the patient has suffered health damage as a result of the lack of caregiver, and that no other doctor has been in the clinic but that fortunately the injury has been not fatal. With complaints from the patient and confirmation of the case, the doctor has been suspended for some time from work”, Kodra said.
Recently, the University Clinical Centre of Kosovo has identified about 200 cases of misuse of access to access cards in this institution.
During an inspection conducted by the institution's director, Basri Sejdiu, during the night shift, some clinics have found no doctors and nurses at all. As a result, 3 doctors have been suspended from work, another 3 have been sent to the disciplinary commission, including 2 nurses.
Albattris Matoshi, media adviser to the minister of health, has told Radio Free Europe that Minister Ismaili from obtaining the mandate has been aimed at improving conditions, not only for patients and improving clinics, but also for medical staff, as has happened to raise wages for doctors' custody, until, as he has said, is working intensively with the Law on the pay provided doctors even higher salaries, what they deserve.
However, news from several clinics for disrespecting working hours is disappointing, although it is a small number of health professionals. Action has been taken for monitoring medical staff, respecting the workplace by the University Hospital Service Board. Those who do not respect schedules will be sanctioned according to legal procedures in force,” Matosi has said.
He has added that monitoring the work schedule will continue in the coming days.
This type of monitoring has started with KKUK, but will continue throughout Kosovo. We are aiming that together with health professionals, not by excluding them, but by calling for them to join this mission that is necessary and needs to happen long ago. We are convinced that most doctors do their work with honor and that we will not allow a minority to stain them”, Matosh stressed.
In the Ministry of Health, they have claimed that in the first six months of this year, through the free line of citizens who have the right to complaint, some 60 complaints of different natures have already been admitted, and 90 percent of them have already been prosecuted.
