Now thanks to an 18-month rescue mission and an epic trip of 5,400 miles [5,400 km], he and three other endangered bears held as tourist attractions at a museum in Hokkaido, Japan, can finally start a new life in Great Britain.
Rick, along with his 27-year-old brothers Amu and Kai, and a female bear named Hanako, are placed in Yorkshire Wildlife Park (YWP), reports Grace Macaskill for “People Sunday”.
The group arrived in Heathrow on Friday, before being transported to a park-built reserve at 400,000 pounds.
Before their salvation, bears were part of an exhibition at the Ainu Cultural Museum in Hokkaido, Japan's northernmost islands. The indigenous people there worshipped and sacrificed bears as part of their culture.
