According to the American agency and Mexican authorities, it's the number one after the arrest of Joachim Guzman “El Chapo” two years ago, former head of Sinaloa cartel.
Paul Crain, former police chief in Mexico, says “El Mencho” “has an exercise with thousands of bad guys”
The 52-year-old was once a police officer in Mesia, and now runs a cartel that grew at the moment of El Chapos's collapse in 2016, his arrest and extradition to the US, where he will face charges of murder, drug trafficking and money laundering.
His cartel has proved to be more well organized and ruthless than the Sinal cartel.
“Unlike other cartels they function as paramilitary organisation”, Craine told New York Post. “They're like an iron hand that controls Jalisco State in western Mexico. ”
El Mencho has set his cartel streets in the US, Europe and Asia and is rapidly spreading to Chicago and the world reports W LS-TV
In 2015 he ordered a series of attacks on security forces in Jalisco. Gas stations and banks have reportedly attacked and ordered cartel members to tear down a military missile helicopter, the New York Post reported.
Mexican authorities announced last week that they would add $1.5m to the $5m reward the US Department has made available to anyone who will help arrest El Menchos.
El Mencho's wife, Rosalinda Gonzalez Valencia, was arrested in May, and worked as the cartel's income manager.
I have no doubt that El Mencho will be caught but the violence in Mexico will not stop until the government seriously strengthens the law and ends corruption” said Craine
