Serbs had declared their independence from Croatia, declaring Republika Krajina's Republika Srpska, which was still unknown internationally.
On August 4th 1995, the attack has started with 150 thousand Croatian troops, who have soon broken Serbian Army lines in Krajina to advance towards Knin.
On the second day of the operation, Serbian forces have collapsed and most of Yugoslavia's army has withdrawn.
Croatian forces have restored the region for four days, ending the operation on August 8th. The operation has been named the largest ground offensive in Europe since World War II.
Hundreds of Serbs have been killed in it, while thousands of others have abandoned homes.
