The race began in the Asian part of Istanbul, at the port of Canlica, and swimmers headed toward Europe.
The storm, which extends at a distance of 30km, joined the bridge for the first time in 1973 and is known as the world's most spectacular and controversial waterway.
Once a gateway to the sea power of the former Sobjetik Union, now the Bosphorus Strait serves as an important point for oil exports from Russia and Central Asian countries. It is also an important tourist center.
According to Turkish media, swimmers from 50 years of the world participated in this year's Bosphorus competition. / VoA
