Today is expected to end all dilemmas about the referendum on the name issue agreement.
Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi is expected to announce the referendum date shortly after new KSHZ members have sworn in. The name referendum is expected to be held on September 30th.
But power and V MRO opposition DPMNE seems still far from the referendum question agreement.
Mickovski's party insists the question should be simple and meaningful. VMRO Deputy Chairman Aleksandar Nikolovski in an interview for Free Europe said any questions that, besides the Agreement with Greece, would include NATO and EU integration is unconstitutional.
The referendum's bid should be understandable, simple and common. What the prime minister presents is multi-understanding, there are at least 8-9 combinations, respectively, that you can answer. For example: You may be for Macedonia's EU membership, but to be a member of Macedonia's NATO membership and against the Agreement with Greece, and now not to count all communities. This is absolutely a manipulating question, which is against the law. This question should be very simple and citizens to show whether they are pro or against the Agreement with Greece, which envisions changing the name”, Aleksandar Nikolloski said, V MRO DPMNE.
But Deputy Prime Minister Bujar Osmani said that by tomorrow the parties will try to harmonise positions regarding the question. Even in LSDM, consultations on closing all open issues involving the referendum are said to be in progress.
The parliamentary majority will propose to hold the referendum on September 30th. We hope the announcement will be supported by the opposition. By tomorrow we are trying to come up with questions harmonised with the opposition”, Bujar Osmani said.
Days earlier, the Innisti Zaev said that in the event no provision is reached in the referendum, the agreement with Greece will decide Parliament. After the referendum phase is over, the constitutional changes follow, after which agreement will be ratified in the Greek Assembly. After completing all procedures, the country will become NATO's 30th member.
