An EU official told agency dtt-net.com that the decision on the eventual property in Kosovo belongs to institutions in Pristina and that if the decision is positive, the European Commission would be ready to help.
The “remains Kosovo to decide on organising its judicial system, in line with constitutional and legal framework”, the anonymous official told dtt-net.com.
The European Commission is supporting Albania's efforts in the ownership process company, “, which was established in accordance with the constitution and adapted to the country's context and needs”, aimed at clearing the judicial system of judges, prosecutors and corrupt police officers and the executive body would also help Kosovo, the EU official said.
“If other partners seek the Commission's support to conduct similar processes, the Commission will review the country's specific circumstances, including previous or existing processes to assess judges, prosecutors and other legal professions. Such a process would require broad consensus among all actors in society”, the source said.
Since EU and US-backed judicial reform in Albania was launched in 2016, this idea was mentioned several times in Kosovo by many Kosovo politicians and members of civil society.
In contrast, with the property process in Albania, several judges and prosecutors lost their jobs for failing to justify their property. The process is under way.
