EULEX chief in Kosovo Alexander Papadopoulos has said changes to the mandate of this mission will be great.
Any change has meant changes or reconfirming the mission so far. This time it's not just staff numbers, it's changing the subject of mandate”, Papadopoulos said.
“The first and most important difference is that EULEX is withdrawing from executive functions in the judiciary, which means there will be no EULEX judges, prosecutors and investigators”.
The reason for this is that Kosovo judiciary and Kosovo Police investigators have reached the level of maturity when they can assume their responsibilities and are responsible for this”.
She said in an interview in Info Magazine that the mission EULEX has not been an open mission that, according to her, has not been their mandate to stay in Kosovo forever.
The “has certainly not been our mandate to replace Kosovo institutions. We have only been here to help Kosovo build a system of rule of law, which is stable, responsible, efficient and in line with the EU's best practices”, she stressed.
