Work for the discovery of a new kind of insect from Macedonia has been published these days. It is the type Agaphylax Balcanico, discovered by University of Pristina professor Halil Ibrahimi in collaboration with two other entomologists from Hungary.
This type has been found in National Park Pelisterão, Macedonia, belongs to the group of water insects and serves as an indicator of the good quality of running waters.
Special of this type, except it is rare and currently known only by some isolated localities from Pelisterer, is it also proved to belong to a new taxonomic gender described in the same work.
While some new types of water pests from Kosovo, Albania and Macedonia have been discovered in recent years, this is a rare case from Europe, where it describes a new taxeconomic gender as well.
The type is named based on the region where it was found, the Balkan Peninsula.
Work was published in Opuscula Zoologica magazine, which deals with research from zoology.
Such rare types of river insects in recent years are under constant threat in the Balkans from the construction of hydropower plants and environmental degradation. /
