Canada's foreign minister, Chrystia Freeland, said Otttawa will respond to the move by imposing its tariffs on American exports of steel, aluminum and other products.
According to the foreign minister, Canadian authorities are planning to hit US dollar fees with import taxes for steel, aluminum and goods such as whiskey, orange juice and other food products expected to be charged, reports “RT” Transmission Periscope.
On the other hand, Mexico's Economy Minister stressed that US barriers, including steel, pork, sausages and food preparations, apples, grapes, cucumbers, various cheeses and several other products “up to a sum comparable to the damage caused by US action”.
“This measure will be in force as long as the US government maintains imposed tariffs,” said the ministry. The shares of American meat producers plunged immediately after the announcement, while pork market revenues also collapsed.
Unable to reach alternative agreements, Washington decided to impose tariffs for import of steel and aluminum from Canada, Mexico and the EU, which has entered into force on 1 June.. /Periscopi/
