Turkish authorities have detained 33 members of the Air Force after allegedly linked to religious cleric Fetullah Gulen, whom Ankara blames for failed put-insoms in July 2016, the Turkish daily Hurriyet has said, broadcast Reuters.
According to the paper, the detainees have been among the 101 members of the air force that may face arrest, following an investigation launched by Ankara prosecutors, which has expanded to 21 provinces.
Among the prisoners is a lieutenant and five colonels.
Turkey has detained 160,000 people and has fired almost the same number of people from failed coup attempts, the United Nations Human Rights Office has announced.
Critics of the Turkish president, Recep Tayip Erdogan, accuse him of using the puti's reasoning to suppress opponents.
Turkish authorities on the other hand declare these measures are necessary to combat national security risks.
