The national hero Gjergj Kastriot é Skenderbeu was born on May 6, 1405, into a noble family of Debar, such as John Kastriot's.
He was taken hostage by Sultan Murati and fought for the Ottoman Empire as general until 1443, the year in which he fled during a battle, returning to Crewe. In 1444 he gathered all Albanian princes in the League of Lezha, where he was unanimously determined to fight for the possession of Albanian lands against the Ottoman Empire.
At the head of the Albanian Army, after its first victory against the Ottomans in the battle of Torville, Skenderbeu would win 22 major victories against the Ottoman Empire, in the years of war at the helm of his army, which was headed by Kruja.
The national hero would be known for his relentless struggle at a key location between east and west. He would be known as faithful to the king of Naples in the Treaty of Gate, where he supported King Ferdinand of Naples in the civil war of 1460 1461. In 1463 he was commander of the forces of Pope Pius II Crusade, dying on January 17th, 1468, at 63 years of age.
Gjergj Kastriot Skenderbeu is considered by many Western European countries as the hero who prevented the Ottoman Empire from conquering the West of Europe and as the model of Christian resistance to Muslim Ottomans.
