Kosovo President Hashim Thaci has declared that the EU is not only a peace project, but also a government-admission structure that constantly enhances and deepens co-operation in all areas of politics.
He said that EU enlargement should not be questioned, so his main message is the growing trend of extreme and extreme population should not be used as an excuse for EU member states not to keep the EU perspective open for the Western Balkans.
President Thaci originally congratulated his Montenegrin counterpart, Milo Djukanovic, on his inauguration just two days ago. He has also congratulated the Montenegrin president and people on Montenegro's Independence Day, stressing that 21 May is also the Day of the Montenegrin community in Kosovo.
Speaking of the Euro-Atlantic perspective of Western Balkan countries, President Thaci has said Montenegro serves as an inspiration for the entire region, never stopping in commitment to Euro-Atlantic integration.
“We in Kosovo are happy that you became part of NATO last year. The membership of Albania and Montenegro in NATO creates a greater guarantee for stability, security and democracy in the region, he has said.
President Thaci has confirmed that the agreement at the forum was that the pillars of the European Union are being shaken, first by the economic crisis, then by the migration crisis and now by Brex.
The “is important when facing such a controversial context, not forgetting what is currently functioning”, President Thaci has said.
The head of state has said that increasing right-wing population is a tendency in Europe at the moment, but is not the only one.
According to him, differing and often controversial tendencies are evident at the same time.
There were many who predicted a domino effect of Brex, right after the referendum, or the wave of popular victories. However, what we have seen is that the EU remains powerful and pro-European forces have won in most EU states”, he has said.
NATO-backed EU, according to President Thaci, is the largest and most successful peace project ever.
President Thaci has said the problem lies with the grouping that unfortunately the EU no longer sees as a peace project, until 73 years after World War II ended only the very old generation has memories of war.
The “in the Western Balkans is different. Memories of war and the suffering of my people are still vivid in all in Kosovo. For us, the EU is an example of peace, reconciliation, overcoming the past and increasing co-operation and interdependence gradually”, he has said.
At this forum, the president has stressed that for the successful admission of the Western Balkans to the EU, we need deep political and economic reforms and the harmonisation of AKES in the Western Balkans and internal EU reforms in parallel.
The EU's “Euroscepticism and enlargement fatigue should not be used by politicians in our region as an excuse not to reform, to develop and improve citizens' lives”, he has said.
President Thaci has said this is a time and opportunity for European leaders to assume responsibility and not follow reactive policies for short-term benefits.
So let's see what's good for Europe in the long run. Clearly, the answer is an expanded EU that includes the Western Balkans as a whole”, President Thaci has said.
The Security Forum „ukre “is an event that helps not only promote new ideas about security, but also stimulate tactical thinking in reform efforts in Southeast Europe.
The forum is aimed at building closer ties between key shareholders and partners, to make the region a safer place, and to contribute to overcoming global challenges in the future.
