Following the rejection of the proposal by official Athens for Macedonia's new name in the “Ilindian Republic of Macedonia”, the response of the Macedonian Government has also come, explaining that the proposed new name is a long-term name that is called in concrete dates from the past and is the real possibility of compromise by both sides.
The Macedonian government has said they hope the proposal will still be understood and accepted in Athens.
The chairmanship of Ilinden is the common struggle of our multiethnic people for social rights and freedoms. And there is no territorial aspirations towards any neighbouring country, including Greece. This is the same war in 1903 and 1944”, the government's announcement said.
From the government they have also added that the talks will continue with the Greek side until we find the final solution to the name dispute.
