Iran's president, Hassan Rohan, demanded that women be allowed into stadiums. The stop is decades old.
There should be no difference between men and women in Islam and, for this reason, women should be allowed to participate in sports events”, Rohan said at a meeting with Iranian athletes, his office reported.
Iranian women are not allowed into stadiums since the Islamic revolution in 1979.
Rohan asked why religious authorities have banned women, saying they are active in sports and that they have achieved results in competitions.
He also said women's sports should be broadcast on television.
