Officialing the fourth mandate as prime minister of Hungary on Thursday, Victor Orban said the era of liberal democracy has ended, reports “DW” Transmission Periscope.
“We have replaced the broken liberal democracy ship with the 21st century Christian democracy, which ensures freedom and security”, Orban said during a speech before lawmakers in Budapest.
Right-wing leader in power since 2010 and earlier he had been prime minister between 1998 and 2002. He has already become known for his authoritarian style and scepticism towards EU policies, especially the policy of migrants.
The far-right nationalist arm at the helm of Orban has secured 133 seats, totaling Hungary's 199 parliament.
During his speech he added “We need the EU, and the EU needs us”.
He has faced massive protests in the first weeks since the election ended. /Periscopi/
