On International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobis the LGBTI community has organised an exhibition of photos “Thales Why”, where negative comments and hate speech that were made during the parade held in October last year.
The purpose of this exhibition was to highlight the hate language and threats people get LGBTI from Kosovo society.
Supporting this community and watching the exhibition were the chief of the EU Office in Kosovo, Natalia Apostolova, US Ambassador Greg Delawie, and Sweden's ambassador to Kosovo, Henrik Nilsson.
The head of the EU Office in Kosovo, Natalia Apostolova, said the European Union reconfirms full support for the fight against this form of discrimination, which is based on hatred on the basis of sexual orientation.
The EU chief stressed that Kosovo has a very good legal framework for community rights LGBTI, but according to it the problem remains the implementation of this framework.
The European Union, which I am representing here in Kosovo, is reconfirming its full support for the fight against this form of discrimination, which is based on hatred, on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity and sexual characteristics. We will promote and actively support the LGBTI community organisations that exist here in Kosovo. Kosovo's legal framework for community rights LGBTI is very good. The EU has supported Kosovo to develop this framework, but now the problem is implementation of this framework. We are very pleased to see that more is now discussed about the rights of the LGBTI community. We saw the parade in October 2017, where 500 people also attended representatives of institutions, ambassadors who proudly joined this parade”, she said.
Support for the LGBTI community also offered US Ambassador to Kosovo Greg Delaway, who said he strongly supports the investigation and prosecution of harassment and violence perpetrators.
This year the U.S. State Department is underlining that violence due to sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression or sex traits is a violation of the fundamental human rights we have and we share them all. That's why this exhibition is being held right on time because it forces all of us to admit that even if we don't see road violence, LGBTI are facing violent and hate languages not only on the Internet but also behind closed doors. We strongly support the investigation and prosecution of perpetrators of this kind of harassment and violence, as expressed in Kosovo's anti-discrimination laws. Kosovo has made great progress in this matter within a short period of time, congratulates all who have worked hard to overcome prejudice and change their thinking. Do not give up, to know that the U.S. are this «up to rely on each step along this” route, Delawi said.
While Sweden's ambassador to Kosovo, Henrik Nilsson said the rights of the LGBTI community are very important.
For us as the Government of Sweden, LGBTI community rights are human rights issues. Human rights are universal and we as a state co-operated closely with Kosovo to improve respect for human rights. So the LGBTI community is very important for us and our work together with Kosovo authorities, which aims to bring Kosovo closer to the European Union, is very important support and co-operation to improve the situation for the LGBTI community in Kosovo”, he said.
Regarding the exhibition, Blert Morina has spoken, who called for the hatred language to be condemned and to take action against anyone who risks and cantons the lives of each individual.
He also indicated that the situation of this community has begun to change and that it is now a community that is empowered and willing to forward their demands.
This year, organisations protecting community rights LGBTI have organised an exhibition of negative comments and hate speech that were made during the parade, which was held in October last year. The exhibition aims to highlight the hate language and threat addressed to persons from Kosovo society. We appeal to condemn the tongue of hatred and to take action against anyone who endangers and threatens the lives of each individual. Also, we call for respect and implementation of laws which are guaranteed with Kosovo laws”, he said.
As the exhibition in Kosovo Police's “Square was held, additional forces have been seen
