But when did this ritual begin, and why does it continue to follow today?
British historian Geraldie Roberts has told of the Daily Star that despite many believing that Queen Victoria was the first to parade herself on an altar dressed in a white dress in 1840 when she married Prince Albert, tradition actually originated several decades ago.
Ritual began in 1789 when the daughter of a Baron, the Aristikacratine Tylney-Long, 16, married William Wellsley Paule, a boy who did not have a royal background and did not come from a wealthy family. Hence, their marriage caused much controversy.
The boundaries of Catherine's clothing caused a sensation and made the bride's white dress desirable from all walks of society,” says Geraldine.
Therefore, as of that moment, the brides began to wear the white dress as a symbol of true love and purity,” she adds.
