Hasan made this announcement after signing the agreement on implementing the second part of the project “Investment climate in Kosovo”, with the Swiss government envisioning reforms in inspection of businesses.
The project is funded by the Swiss Government, worth 2.3m euros, and will be implemented in co-operation with the International Finance Corporation, which represents the World Bank.
According to him, this has also affected increased external investment, but it has not responded to their number.
The International Finance Corporation's representative, Thomas Lubeck, has said that the second part has to do with creating a strategy that will promote foreign investment.
There are multiple inspectors and over 150 different regulations. I am afraid that Kosovo is more or less left behind with other countries in the region. The purpose of this project is to make this process more efficient and the important job of inspection done by these agencies is to speed up. So business spending will be smaller, not only in financial context, but also in the time they spend in recruiting, investing, employing people, etc.”, Lubeck said.
While European Bank representative Damian Shiels has said the creation of new jobs is a key step.
For us, Kosovo has made some major progress in reform and doing business, and it is very important to keep this moment in place. And, as you can see, implementation is at lowering the burden for businesses in achieving successes and ultimately job creation, which is the central part that Kosovo must achieve. One of the other things we want to do is internationalisation of the country, to testify that it is open to competition and new investments”, Shiels said.
Implementation of this project, according to officials, has prompted Kosovo to mark progress during 2017, citing among the 10 most reformist countries for changing its business environment, simplifying administrative procedures.
The project was launched in 2017 and is expected to be finalised in 2020, where another 15m euros is expected to be invested.
