Former European Parliament rapporteur for Kosovo Ulrike Lunacek says the government of Kosovo should submit a proposal for the Association of Serb-based municipalities, but association has an executive mandate. She has also said Serbia will not be able to become an EU member without knowing Kosovo
The Kosovo government should submit a proposal for the Association of Serb-run municipalities, but this association does not dare have an executive mandate.
So he stated during an interview published in the newspaper “Sound” The former Kosovo rapporteur for the European Parliament, Ulrike Lucacek, adding that local governance and co-operation among municipalities should be independent of the population's ethnic affiliation.
During this interview, the former European Parliament Speaker has also talked about reports between Serbia and Kosovo on the path to European integration of both countries.
According to her, no government and an EU member state will be willing to accept another state with unclear borders in the European Union following the accession of the divided state of Cyprus in 2004 and therefore should have Kosovo recognition from Serbia.
She says she would like six Southeast European states to be accepted at the same time in the EU, because, as Austrian politician says, it would eliminate the risk of bilateral blockades in the membership process, but acknowledges that is currently not realistic.
