According to Iran's semi-official agency, Tesnim, the chairman of the Strategic Management Centre near Iran's Presidency, Riza Cevaheri, has reportedly announced the ban on the use of foreign applications for messages to state institutions.
Making it known that the decision in question is being made based on the point of regulating social networking applications at the Supreme Council of Cybernetic World Council, Cevaheri says all state institutions and organisations should switch to local email applications announced by the Communication and Information Institute.
In Iran, although a large number of foreign text applications are used, the telegram is seen as the most popular app. Recently on the agenda in Iran, there were statements about closing the telegram.
Local alternative applications for telegram
National Security Commission and Foreign Policy Commission Chairman in Iran's Parliament Aladdin Burucerdi, in a statement two weeks ago, had indicated that the telegram by April 20th will be replaced with a similar local app called “Sorush”
A statement in the early hours by Iranian leader Ayetullah Ali Hamaney's office Telegram channel “will be closed with the aim of protecting national interests and protecting local social apps”, addressing users in local alternatives.
Even Vice President Isak Cihangiri announced he closed his account on the telegram.
