Harsh penalties warned for states that discriminate Kosovo athletes

The International Olympic Committee (KON) and the Association of International Summer Sports Federation (ASOIF) from now on could condemn countries that discriminate other countries and athletes with their participation. According to the website “Around TheRings.com”, KON and ASOIF have formed a working group to fight the rising wave of nationalism that disrupt international events. Punishment [...]
The punishment for these countries will be for the respective federation, if a country that organises different international events does not allow all athletes of other countries to participate.
Such problems have Kosovo athletes, who are often not allowed to participate in countries that have not recognised the independence of the Republic of Kosovo, as was the case with boxer Donjet Sadiku, who, in the absence of non-recognition of Kosovo passports from India, remained outside the World Championship.
Such problems Kosovo athletes continue to have even with countries like Ukraine, which also does not recognise our country's passports.
Following numerous pressures Wednesday, at the SportAccord Convention, Ukraine decided to lift its boycott to allow the national wrestling team to participate in the European Championships organised in Russia.
Last month, the Czech Republic, the US, Canada and Ukraine announced that they will boycott the World Biathlon Championship, held this year as well as in Russia.
President I ASOIF, Francesco Ricci Beati, stressed that the time has come to take the right actions to hit <x0-> the rise of policy use in sports”, including boycotts.
“Katar is unable to go to Dubai and Saudi Arabia. Ukraine is excluding the athletes of Russia, Kosovo and so on. This is getting bigger”, Ricci Bitti said.
Asked how the KON and federations can solve this problem, he said that if the federations are condemned, others will be afraid and will not organise competitions without accepting them all.
According to Ricci Bitti, the Federations of Olympic Summer Sports should have more power to obtain the organisation of various events, countries which discriminate other countries or athletes. Disparting in competitions can also cause the loss of Olympic athletes.
The SportAccord Convention, held for several days in Bangkok, Thailand, also attended the Kosovo Olympic Committee leaders, President Besim Hasani and Secretary General Shasivar Hadzijaj.
President Hasani had several times last year expressed such concern for Kosovo athletes during meetings he had with top world sports figures, including KON President Thomas Bach.
