Top Channel finds that behind the deputy company Gulf owned in Albania lies Georgian Alexandre Gogokhia, involved in money laundering with former Georgian minister who was arrested while traveling to Albania. The prosecution announced the search along with Albano Aliko and the company's latest manager, who deceived Albanians with nearly 5m euros.
Following the shell company, which owns the company “Gulf” in Albania, stand people accused of money laundering. Top Channel has reached the owners of an off-the-art company registered in the US's Delaware.
This is a document showing that the owner of “Universal Energy group”, which owns “Sun Petroleum” and “Gulf” in Albania is Alexandra Gogokhia, a Georgian national involved in money laundering.
Gogokhya's name became known in 2013 during the corruption scandal, which led to the arrest of former Tbilisi Mayor Giorgi Ugulawa. According to the Georgian prosecution, former mayor and Gogokhia have cleared through offline companies over $1.5m before crime, through which they have financed the party's United National Movement campaign in Georgia.
But later investigations would reveal more details, including Albania. According to Georgian prosecutors Gogokhia, he was one of the main business partners of former Georgian Defence Minister Davit Kezerashvili. He was arrested for corruption and money laundering at the Paris airport as he set off to travel directly to Albania.
According to Georgian authorities, Gogokhia managed the businesses of former Georgian Defence Minister Kezerzavili even after his arrest. The arrival of “Gulf” on the Albanian market corresponds right now.
Official documents in the QKR show the company “Sun Petroleum Albania” was founded on 12 September 2013, when political rotation and new government had taken place in Albania. Just one month after the foundation of “Sun Petroleum”, exactly in October 2013, former Georgian Defence Minister Kezeragevili tried to come to Tirana, but was arrested at Paris airport.
The reasons for the trip were never revealed, but the event caused no little publicity in the media. Currently “Gulf” has been put under investigation by the Albanian Prosecution for serious consequences.
But it remains to be seen whether investigations will include the shell company in “Delaware” as well as expand on other money laundering tracks?
