France's Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said the attacks were <x0 legal”, “proportional” and “precisiond”.
Defence Minister Florence Parly said that a French Navy frigate in the Mediterranean and fighter aircraft from bases in France placed the main chemical weapons research centre in Syria, as well as two main areas of chemical weapons production.
But, the defence minister said France did not want confrontation and does not want military escalation of the situation. She also said Russia was warned of the attacks.
Earlier, US General Josepf Dunford said Russian forces in Syria had been warned through existing “non-conflict” that Western aircraft would enter Syrian airspace, but not revealed to them the time of attack or objects that were targeted.
