Former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic will launch an appeal to UN judges on 23 April for his 40-year sentence.
Karadzic, 72, was sentenced in 2016 for genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity in the 1995 Srebrenica massacre.
More than 100,000 have been killed, and another 2.2 million have been forced to flee violent during the war in Bosnia in 1992-1995.
He had been convicted by judges at The Hague Tribunal, who was officially closed in December last year.
The president of this Tributal, Theodor Meron, has declared in February that appeals will be reviewed by the International Criminal Tribunal Mechanism (MICT).
Prosecutors are also appealing his 40-year sentence, demanding that prison sentences be added.
The decision is expected to become known next year.
