A former Russian agent who has been sheltered for eight years in Great Britain is in critical condition for life after being contacted by a mysterious substance. Sergei Scripal was found unconscious on a bench at the shopping mall in Salisbury on Sunday, along with a woman aged 33.
British authorities have not come up with a statement on the event, but it is suspected to have a background of fighting spying between Russia and the West. This, after Colonel Scripal, former Russian intelligence officer, was sentenced to 13 years in prison in his country for passing information to the British secret service.
He was found guilty of making up the identities of Russian agents who worked in secret in different European countries, but was released on the basis of an agreement between Moscow and Washington on exchanging spying agents. The event recalls what happened in 2006, when former Russian agent Alexander Litvinenko was poisoned under similar circumstances in a London local, with polynium 210 radioactive substances.
It later turned out that Litvinenko was providing information to law enforcement agencies in London and Madrid for the criminal investments of former Russian intelligence officers.
