The rapporteur for Kosovo in the European Parliament, Igor Sholtes, has welcomed ratification of the demarcation agreement with Montenegro in the Kosovo Assembly.
Today's decision of the Kosovo Assembly for demarcation of the border with Montenegro marks a big day for Kosovo citizens” has declared Sholtes.
“Powerful greeting the achievement of political actors to finally overcome internal disputes, to act in their country's best interest”, it has indicated.
Today, the car, which was driving towards isolation, has returned to the right track again towards the future of the EU!”, Sholtes said.
“Through this decision has taken a very important and major step towards visa liberalisation, and the free movement of the people, one of the main EU principles, can now become reality”, the rapporteur for Kosovo at the EP has declared.
“Now is the time for Kosovo citizens to enjoy the same opportunity and receive the same treatment as their neighbours”, he added.
If just a few months ago it seemed that this step would be difficult to achieve, it is now proven that wisdom and responsibility have dominated”, Sholtes has indicated.
With overcoming one of the main obstacles, all eyes will now be from the EU and its institutions, for the approval of the visa-free movement for Kosovo, as they have promised they will do when all conditions” are met, he has said.
The European Parliament will call on the European Commission to present its conclusions as soon as possible, and to give the green light for visa-free movement for Kosovo”, Sholtes added.
Kosovo has returned to the path towards EU integration, and I expect to see this kind of commitment even to achieving other difficult but very important reforms. As we know, Kosovo still has to show results in fighting organised crime and corruption”, it has ended.
