The concern remains that new drugs, used by young people without knowledge, continue in Kosovo.
So says Free Europe Radio Safet Blakaj, director of the Medio-Psikotimepeutic Centre “Labyrint”, under which the newest drug ever to enter the market is the one called "R" DOCHCHORO-2,5-dimitoxyamptamine, which is a hallucinogenic type.
As Blakaj says, even drugs GHB) is one of the most problematic, which has been used by young people for years.
But, according to him, concern remains the fact that 12-year-old children in Kosovo use marijuana.
According to statistics that center “Labyrinth” owns, about 20 percent of students in schools use narcotics, while there are reportedly about 5 thousand drug users in all of Kosovo actively, while 25 thousand users who occasionally use drugs.
“As far as the average age of those who use drugs, especially last year has dropped sharply, is 16. This is an obvious decline if compared with the previous years. The extreme age that was presented, not many, has been 12 years old. The most popular drug is marijuana, until new and hallucinogenic drugs, dubbed DOC, are present in Pristina from time to time. This is used as a tablet. Moss that use this drug are mostly 16 to 23. Also, GHB, another drug is widely used and in liquid form”, Blakaj says.
Many of the youths surveyed by Radio Free Europe have access to drugs and users, as well as the consequences of narcotics, have said there should be more conscious campaigns but also greater penalties and control for drug abusers.
Albulen Kastrati, 19, says that with the information she has, every new generation that comes, she abuses more narcotics. She adds that above all, it would require greater parental control, especially in 12-year-old children, already known to be using drugs.
I think the new generation uses narcotic substances unconscious of the consequences. They have no proper control and no respect. That's my opinion. I think that self - awareness campaigns seem worthless and as many young people, I think it takes more punishment and control, so that we can prevent, especially children, from entering this world, that is, in drug abuse”, Kastrati says.
Kaltrin Haxhiu, 20, speaks similarly, according to which information that 12-year-old children use narcotics is shocking:
The use of narcotics from 12 years old I think is very disturbing. It takes greater parental control and the greatest initiative of all, including schools, since this phenomenon is really taking on a disturbing dimension of”.
Kosovo police during January of this year, but even in October of last year, had received an action where 26 people had been arrested, aimed at fighting narcotics substances throughout Kosovo.
Blakaj further adds that although preventive measures of narcotics abuse are taken, these are not permanent.
“As far as institutions are concerned, few moves are in help and that police interventions have been daily, mainly of those attending vendors in the vicinity of schools. This is insufficient”.
But in Kosovo there is no particular permanent programme for preventing drugs from young people, especially in schools.
Despite efforts by law authorities to prevent the use and sale of drugs in general and in the vicinity of schools in particular, nongovernmental organisations consider that access to drugs is not difficult, which they say is very disturbing.
