Britain is profiting “very little” from a European Union deal, otherwise known as the “Rule of Dublin”, to return asylum seekers to the country they came from.
According to a report from “Migrationwatch”, the regulation is “automatically useless”, amid concerns that other bloc members are exploiting Britain.
The analysis shows that Britain has asked European partners in 2016 to return 4,237 asylum seekers to their countries, but only 355 were transferred, fewer than one in ten.
Figures also reveal that for both years, 2016 and 2017, only 676 asylum seekers returned, less than one per day, despite thousands of people coming through the city of Calais, at the same time that Britain accepted 1,019 asylum seekers according to Dublin Regulation.
