Trade and Industry Minister Bajram Hasani has talked to citizens and distributed tracts to “Zahir Pajaziti” in Pristina for International Consumer Day, which has been marked in Kosovo with a series of activities.
Minister Hasani has said that today they have spent their first readings in the Kosovo Parliament on Consumer Protection Bill, which has been made in harmony with EU legislation.
“Today I want to give good news to Kosovo's citizens that we just passed the project on consumer protection, there was a law, but we made a difference because there were some defects along the implementation route, we've done it in full accordance with EU legislation, because today is March 15th, International Consumer Day”, Hasan said before reporters.
Hasan has stressed that they have worked hard on alerting the consumer and will conduct continued information campaign.
This law, which we have adopted today in the first reading, protects consumer rights and is very favourable, because it is completely harmonised with EU laws, which will find application even on the ground. We are also running continuous campaigns for awareness of consumers, to show that every citizen has a complaint right”, Hasani has said.
The minister has said that every day they conduct inspections and shares in the field, and too many goods that have been incompatible have been eliminated.
“We have inspections and shares, we pronounce fines, but we need additional information, and we can do this only with cooperation with consumers, not just routine inspections. We had a launch at the end of 2017 that we informed citizens by text and there were complaints in which the inspectors intervened, and hundreds of thousands of euros of goods that we have encountered in change of prices”, Hasani said.
Meanwhile, there have been other activities held for the International Consumer Day, where a debate with the interest parties has been held and information sheets have been distributed in Pristina's main square.
The information campaign will continue the following days, including the seven main Kosovo centres: Pristina, Ferizaj, Gjilan, Mitrovica, Peja, Gjakova and Prizren.
