On March 7, 1887, the first Albanian teacher opened in Korca. Her first teacher and director was Pandeli Sotiri.
This event was a victory for the Albanian people, as to that time the lessons were held in private and secret homes. This school remained open for 15 years. Its leaders were prominent figures of Albanian Renaissance as: Pandeli Sotiri, Petro nini Lurasi, Nuchi Nachi, Thoma Avrami, and others.
The school's facility in Korca is one of the most visited points in Albania.
To honour this day, numerous activities are held in Kosovo today, organised by the Ministry of Education, SBASK, municipalities, schools and other institutions.
