When this minister launched the driver's license days ago with new design, many citizens complained that documents issued for driving by Kosovo institutions are not being recognised in foreign states.
However, the MPB said there is no information that Kosovo's driver's license is not accepted abroad.
“From Already Practice, driver's license RKS can be used for nearly the road communications of EU states and with the possibility of using it for a specific deadline as example. Germany 6-9 months. We have no information that any EU state does not accept for transit road communication, given the movement of our citizens in these states”, says the ministry's response.
Earlier this problem was addressed by the Kosovo Economic Oda, where she had declared that businesses in Kosovo are discriminated against in terms of transport of goods, due to the lack of vehicle documents for free movement in countries, as well as non-recognition of the driver's license issued by Kosovo institutions.
More precisely OEK had mentioned Austria, saying that this state does not accept Kosovo's driver's license.
MPB says citizens can change RKS's driving license to that of EU states.
“Linked to the issue of recognising drivers from foreign states, in some countries such as Slovenia, Croatia, the Republika Kosovo driver's driver's license can be converted into a driver's license. From the practice, we have many cases where our citizens have made patent translation of RKS drivers into these states, but in some other countries like Montenegro then France etc., and also against that we have no agreement on mutual recognition of drivers”, they say their response to Activress.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs has confirmed that it is in discussions to link reciprocal agreements for recognition of the RKS patents with drivers of foreign states.
Currently, the MPB is in negotiations with the Republic of Macedonia and the Republic of Italy, but there is still no concreteisation of these agreements.
