We are very close to a fatal incident with Turkey”. This is the alarm given by Greek Defence Minister Panos Kamenos.
In an interview given to French “Liberty”, Kamenos spoke of tensions between the two countries and of what he called Turkey's “aggression”).
“We are obliged to protect our territory, which is not Greece's only territory, but is the territory of the European Union”, he said.
Erdogan's historic visit to Athens last December 7th opened a new chapter in relations between the two countries, but not. A few weeks after that visit, tensions flared even harder, to peak with several clashes of military ships in the Aegean and the case of two Greek soldiers held in custody by Turkey, writes Top Channel.
The soldiers were captured by Turkey on its territory. Greece says they crossed the border by mistake, while Turkish Foreign Minister declared the German weekly “Day Zeit” that Turkish justice is trying to figure out whether Greek soldiers crossed the border accidentally or deliberately.
