A powerful cyclone that has affected the American coastal states has caused five casualties. The storm has also brought torrential floods and heavy snowfall.
At least five people died because of the Cyclone that hit the eastern coast of the United States, an area of an estimated 80 million people.
“Norwester” came with the wind of hurricane power and torrential rains, flooding roads and forcing flights to cancel and brought chaos on railway lines. Over 1.5 million people were left without electricity, from Maine to North Carolina.
The storm destroyed cars and turned down heavy tonnage vehicles. Powerful winds also struck the coasts of Massachusetts.
The five victims reported so far have been hit by trees or branches torn by the wind.
A 77-year-old lost his life near Baltimore, a husband and a six-year-old child were killed in Virginia, an 11-year-old in New York and a man in Neport, Rhode Island.
Schools and offices in coastal countries are closed earlier than expected, and passengers on a flight that landed at an airport near Washington told the National Weather Service about the fears they passed aboard.
The eastern coast has been hit by winds of over 50 miles per hour [80 km]. Half a meter of snow has fallen in Ohio and New York.
Small amounts of snow are also expected in Boston and Rhode Island.
Meanwhile, civil protection has deployed about hundreds of members to come to the aid of needy residents. It is also learned that over 2,800 flights have been canceled.
