More than 240 witnesses have been identified as the police investigation into the attempted assassination of the former Russian spy has moved at a very high rate, British Interior Secretary announced this Saturday afternoon.
Amber Rud praised police professionalism, which is currently examining over 200 pieces of evidence in this serious event. The investigation into the poisoning of Sergei Scripal and his daughter, Yulia, has already entered on his sixth day.
Meanwhile, Officer Nick Bailey, who was also touched by the nervous agent after being found near doubles in the target of the attack, denies being a hero. Bailey too remains in critical condition, but at least he is awake, conscious and has communicated with his family.
Rudd said that the former Scripal colonel, 66, and his 33-year-old daughter, laid down at Salisbury City Hospital, still remain in the critical but stable “situation”, after being exposed to a nervous agent. The double in question was found unconscious Sunday, March 4.
More than 250 members of the antiterrorism police are involved in what the Interior Secretary has described as <x0 major investigation”.
Speaking after a meeting with the government's Emergency Committee (COBRA), Rud said the government is using all available means in an effort to identify those responsible after this assassination attempt.
Russia denies being involved in this case, but British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson warned a few days ago that Great Britain would respond to “in a harsh and decidedly” if it is verified that Moscow is behind this incident.
As part of the investigation, some 180 military personnel have been sent to help move vehicles and objects that may have been contaminated by nerve substances.
