New York Times writes about Kadare: Readers of the world wonder how he does not receive the Nobel Prize

Cynthia Haven literature critic did an analysis to the novel “Girl in Exeal, Requiem for Linda B”, or as is the title in Albanian “The obstructed”, translated in English by John Hodgson.

Ismail Kadare's readers are surprised every year when the Nobel Prize Committee announces the winner. The biggest Albanian writer to win the Man Booker International Prize, the Jerusalem Prize and many other awards and honours is now 82 years old”.

The novel “Girl in Exill” published in Albanian in 2009 could rekindle hopes for another assessment.

What the Haven critic isolates is the Albanian language, made international through the books of this writer, while stopping and his life under the Communist regime.

The obstructed “” is a novel about Tirana's homesickness. “Cafe Flora”, road intersections around “Skenderbe”, the gardens of the Academy, in the former royal plateau, leaves dropped in front of the Hotel “Dajit”.

This mixture of mixed ages for the country's capital gets a dramatic extreme overtones when given through the vision of a girl who is forbidden to step on the capital, writes the Albanian newspaper.

This is the “obstructed”, the eighteen-year-old girl, who, like the ancient characters standing up against fate, tries to overcome the state barrier. The end of it, it's too tragic, it ends with suicide.

According to Kadare, “The book speaks of a disabled man. Usually in the tradition of world literature, fate creates the barrier, here described a new type of barrier more later than fate, the state barrier. It is dedicated to all Albanian girls who have undergone exile, not one name, or another. Albanian girls have absorbed Albanian sorrow”.

This book has received the attention of international media since its English translation.
