US President Donald Trump has asked the Pentagon to organise a large military parade in the country's capital.
The president made this request to top military chiefs in late January, as he was reportedly impressed by the French parade of the Bastille Day last year.
Military displays in Washington are usually used only to mark victory at the end of a war.
The Democrats compared the plan to the display of military power organised by autocratic nations.
The plan was first discovered by the Washington Post, before confirmed by White House spokeswoman Sarah Saunders, broadcasts Kosova Preress.
Vice President Trump is very supportive of American service members who risk their lives every day to keep our country safe”, she said.
“He has asked the Department of Defence to organise a holiday at which all Americans can give their assessment”, she added.
The Pentagon is looking into the details of this event.
