While working at the “Royal Post”, the 30-year-old army officer, Jordan Craig, has been targeting children's cards, knowing that there was money inside of them, writes Periscopi.
He was discovered when his superiors doubted what Craig was doing, inserting “test path” into his tour, reports the Daily Mail.
Through a search into his closet in March last year, 83 open letters or packages were found that could not be sent to the destination due to injuries.
Craig, who had worked as a postman from January 2016 to March 2017, has admitted four acts of theft in his appearance before the court.
Magic Court, Norwich
The representative of “Royal Post”, Gwen Williams, has said in court that he has caused a major damage, damaging confidence in the company.
Of course, a mailman working for the Royal Post carries a heavy load of faith on his shoulders because the shipments should be taken from one person and sent to the other without any interference. He has identified birthday cards, especially those addressed to the children and has opened the”, Williams said.
While Craig has pleaded guilty to the tribunal, he has said he has done so because of his financial problems.
He said that he was trying to help his mate, who has mental health problems.
I've betrayed the belief the Royal Mail has and its clients. I should never have done what I did”, he said, writes Periscope.
The court has decided to sentence him to 18 weeks in prison on bail, force Craig to pay back 60,000 euros of his pension savings, though he has caused damage to about 9,000 euros.
He will also do 120 hours of unpaid work and maintain 12 days of rehabilitation. /Periscopi/
