An unknown person dropped an explosive device at the US Embassy building in Podgorica, the Montenegrin Government confirmed.
The attack occurred in the early hours of today, reports the announcement posted on Twitter.
A stranger committed suicide with an explosive device. Prior to that, that person launched an explosive device from the intersection near the Centre of Sports at the United States Embassy”, the report said.
The government said the device dropped at the embassy “most likely” was hand grenade and that investigations are under way.
The American Embassy in Podgorica also confirmed the attack on Balkan Radio Service Free Europe.
Police said they don't know the motive of the suicide bomber.
The “incident has occurred”, a police official told Reuters agency, but did not provide more details.
Reuters photo in Podgorica said police have blocked the embassy's route.
The embassy warned American citizens to stay away until the next announcement.
